Sep. 09, 1974 - GENERAL ASSEMBLY HEARS STATEMENT BY UNITED STATES PRESIDENT: The UN General Assembly heard this afternoon an address by the President of the United States, Gerald R. Ford, in which he called for an urgent global strategy for energy and food and urged all nations substantially to increase production. Merely to maintain present living standards by the end of the century, he told the assembly, the world must almost double its output of food and energy. The noon meeting of the Assembly was held especially to hear the President's address. President Ford was welcomed to the Assembly by its President, Abdelazis Bouteflika of Algeria.
