President Mitterrand opens Paris-Lyons high speed train line

Sep. 23, 1981 - French President Francois Mitterrand opened the TGV (high speed train service) on the Paris-Lyons line yesterday. Mitterrand said he hoped the train would be extended to Belgium and Great Britain. Several other celebrities made similar comments about the TGV. In Brussels, President of the European Commission, Mr. Gaston Thorn spoke of the technical prowess and of the exceptional event that constituted putting the train in service
