Prime Minister of Iran Shapur Bakhtiar 1915 - 1991
July 31, 1979 - Paris, France - A lawyer and pro-democracy advocate, the last Iranian Prime Minister before Islamic revolution, Dr. SHAPUR BAKHTIAR had been one of the leaders of the liberal, opposition to the late Shah's dictatorship. Ayatollah Khomeini, the revolutionary leader of Iran's popular movement, who advocated a theocracy, dismissed Bakhtiar's effort to establish democratic rule and called upon the people to rebel against his government. Bakhtiar was forced to flee to France, where he was assassinated, along with his personal secretary, Sorush Katibeh, in a house located in a small town in the outskirts of Paris.
