Aug. 08, 1972 - Japan's Premier prepares for China visit: Prime Minister Kakuei Tanaka, had his first public contact with a visiting high-ranking Chinese official in a move to prepare for a visit to Peking in September next. The meeting took place when Sun Ping-hua (left), deputy secretary general of the China Japan Friendship Association paid a courtesy call on Tanaka at the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo, during which Tanaka expressed his strong desire to establish diplomatic relations with China.
