May 18, 1966 - 18-5-66 Princess Margaret sees vertical take-off plane Princess Margaret is shown the P.1127 Vertical take-off plane by Chief Test pilot Bill Bedford when she visited the Hawker Siddeley Aviation Works and Airfield at Dunsfold, Surrey, today. Later he gave a flying demonstration of the aircraft which takes off vertically after a short run, climb rapidly to over 40, 000 feet dive to ground level without any limitations return to base at high speed, decelerate to hover, re-position if necessary and land in the most confined areas.
