Princess Margaret launches HMNZS Otago, Southampton
Dec. 12, 1958 - Princess Margaret Launches Frigate: H.M.N.Z.S Otago, the first ship of the planned squadron for the Royal New Zealand Navy of type 12 Whitby Class Frigates, was launched today by H.R.H Princess Margaret, at the woolston yards of John I thornycroft and Co. Ltd, Southampton. It is the first time in the history of British Naval Construction that a ship has been built entirely for service in the Royal New Zealand Navy.
