Princess Margaret and Lord Snowdon on hovercraft

Aug. 08, 1968 - Royal Inaugural for Seaspeed's Cross Channel Hovercraft Service: Princess Margaret yesterday inaugurated the Cross Channel Service between Dover and Boulogne by the new Mountbatten class hovercraft separated by British Rail. The Mountbatten class hovercraft, largest in the world, is capable of carrying 254 passengers and 30 cars at a speed of over 90 m.p.h. it takes 35 minutes to cross the channel, clipping almost an hour off the time taken by the conventional sea ferries.
