Prisoners on roof of Central Prison, Nicosia, Cyprus
Jan. 01, 1958 - Protest against detention of political prisoners in Cyprus. A protest march took place last week in Nicosia, Cyprus, against the continued detention of political prisoners. Placards were carried by the marchers, who included many women, bearing the words Down with concentration camps, Set free the detainees and Prisoners are not animals'. A demonstration took place in Nicosia Central Prison and some of the prisoners got up on the roof and waved to people who gathered outside the prison walls.
