Professor Hs W Massey, nuclear physicist

Jun. 06, 1959 - Visiting Spaceman: Professor H.S.W. Massey will arrive in New York and Washington by air next Wednesday (June 24th) to lead an 8-man team of British space experts to discuss cooperation with their American counterparts. Australian born, 50 years old, a nuclear physicist, he is Chairman of the British National Committee in Space Research and Quain Professor of Physics at University College, London. No stranger to the United States, he was with the British mission to research establishments at Berkeley, California, from 1943 to 1945. Before that, for the previous part of World War II, he was with the British Admiralty's Research Laboratory where he became Chief Scientist in the Mine Research Department. A BA and MSc of Melbourne University, a scholarship took him to England and Trinity College, Cambridge University, where he took his PhD, and on for five years to Queen's University, Belfast, Northern Ireland, where he was Independent Lecturer in Mathematical Physics. He is a Fellow of Britain's in Mathematical Physics. He is the author and joint author of several important scientific works.
