Queen Alexandra's state coach, opening of Parliament
Oct. 30, 1962 - Parliament's State opening: Crown goes by coach. The Imperial state crown, the most valuable cluster of jewels in the world, was taken by Queen Alexandra's State Coach from Buckingham Palace to the opening of Parliament this morning. Taking the crown in the procession was a suggestion of the Queen?s and the interior of the carriage was illuminated to give the crowds lining the route a better view of the regalia. The Sword of the State and the Cap of Maintenance, both of which are also used in the opening of the House of Lords, went in the carriage as well.
