Feb. 09, 1972 - The Queen's first visit to Bahrain: The presentation of a ceremonial sword of honour, the highest accolade of the Arab World, marked the first visit of a British reigning monarch to the Arabian Gulf. The Queen, accompanied by Prince Philip and Princess Anne, spent an hour with the Emir of Bahrain, Shaikh Isa bin al Khalifa, while her plane was being refuelled for the second leg of the flight to Thailand.
