Jun. 06, 1961 - OPENING OF ROYAL ASCOT QUEEN DRIVES DOWN THE FAMOUS COURSE - WITH NEW MILLION POUND GRANDSTAND BEHIND, The seen as H.M. THE QUEEN and the DUKE OF EDINBURGH drive along the famous ocures at Asoot this afternoon - showing the new grandstand - used for the first time. The grandstand was oonstructed at a coat of approx a Million Pounds - and can accommodate about 13.000 people - with 280 box. - eaoh with its own private dining room. Electrio hoists connect the dining rooms with the kitchens in the basement. The 560ft. long structure replaces the Alexandra Stand built in 1863 - and the Grand Tier Stand built in 1839
