Nov. 11, 1970 - The Queen Inaugurates Synod. The scene in the Sacrarium of Westminster Abbey yesterday, during the legal ceremony in which the Queen inaugerated the General Synod of the Church of England. Beside the Queen are the Archbishop of England. Beside the Queen are the Archbishop of York, Dr. Coggan. Earlier, the Queen led the congregation in Holy Communion. In the afternoon she opened the Synod at Church House, Westminster. The 550-member council brings together for the first time in constitutional association the bishops, priests and laity of the Church
