May 05, 1959 - The Queen Inaugurates Holland house the largest hostel in the youth hostels Association. The queen and the Duke of Edinburgh today paid a visit to Holland House where she inaugurated the largest hostel in the Youth Hostels Association. Holland House, Kensington, the stately 350 year old Jacobean mansion was the London home of the Earls of Lichester, and through the ages it became the meeting place of politicans, writers and painters.Apart frrom the east wing. the house had surfaced beyond restoration and a few years ago was demolished. The new hostel has 200 beds and will help to meet a big demand
