Queen Elizabeth II, Maundy Money ceremony

Mar. 03, 1961 - The Queen at The Royal Maundy money ceremony at Rochester Cathedral: H.M. the Queen, distributed the traditional Maundy Money when she visited Rochester Cathedral, Kent, today. Thirty-five elderly men and thirty five elderly women (one for each year of the Queen's age) reached 35 penoe, in specially minted silver fourpenoes threeponeoes, twopenoes and penoe. The distribution in the Royal Maundy gifts, an ancient Royal tradition, perpetuates Our Lord's washing the feet of his Disciples before the Last Supper.
