Queen Elizabeth II, opening of new Forth Road Bridge
Sep. 09, 1964 - Queen Elizabeth II Opens The New 20-Million Forth Road Bridge at South Queensferry: Thousands of people cheered as the Queen accompanied by Prince Philip arrived at South Queensferry to open the Forth Road Bridge, a marvel of modern engineering costing 20 million. The hundreds of men who toiled on the gigantic structure gathered on the carriageway with their wives and families to greet the Queen. Vehicles will be charged two shillings and sixpence each to cross the bridge, which provides the first road link direct from Edinburgh across the Forth of Fife.
