May 29, 1971 - Richard Crossman Lashes Out Over The Queen's Pay Claim; Richard Crossman, the Labour backbencher and a Privy Councellor attacked the Queen's recent pay claim in an issue of the New Statesman, the Lefty wing weekly which Mr. Crossman edits. The Queen has asked for an increase in her present State grant of475, 000 a year, which was fixed in 1952. Following a banquet in Coventry Mr. Crossman said; Without any discourtesy or disloyalty, I believe that the Queen should submit to the same kind of questioning when she asks for an increase in salary as anyone else.
