The Queen - As Seen Through the Eyes of a Nigerian Sculptor First black artist Ever to Sculpt a Monarch - In Sir William Reid Dick's famous Maida Vale Studio, filled with statues in plaster of the famous, Nigerian Sculptor Ben Enwonwu has been working day and long into many nights for ten months on the first larger-than-life full-length statue of a monarch ever to be sculpted by a black artist. Now nearing completion, a film on the final stages of making the statue is to appear on BBC Panorama on Nov 11. The public will also see the statue - though not in its final bronze form - at an exhibition of the Royal Society of British Artists. The Duke of Edinburgh will see it there for the first time, on Nov 15. Thirty Seven-Year-Old Ben Enwonwu is Art Advisor to the Nigerian Government and Came to Britain in January to make the Figure for the Nigerian Government.
