Queen Elizabeth II in Tonga with Queen Salote
Dec. 12, 1953 - Queen Elizabeth II arrives In Tonga: Queen Elizabeth continuing her Royal Tour arrived in Tonga from Suva, Fiji. It was a day of cheering, dancing and feasting. Tonga's great welcome started with two of the world's reigning Queens sharing a joke that began on Coronation day. As the Queen and the towering Queen Salote drove off from the festooned wharf a cloud sent down a token shower of rain, a gentle reminder of Coronation Day. Photo shows The Queen stands to attention while the Palace guns fire a royal salute, at the rear stands Queen Salote and next to her the Duke of Edinburgh returns the salute
