Nov. 11, 1967 - Queen to inaugurate the Isaac Newton Telescope: The science Research Council's Isaac Newton Telescope, will be inaugurated by H.M. The Queen this evening, at the Royal Greenwich Observatory, Herstmonceaux, Sussex. Named after the inventor of the first reflecting telescope, this 98 inch instrument is the largest ever built in this country or even in Western Europe. The Isaac Newton Telescope was designed by Grubb Parsons of Newcastle to a technical are specification drawn up by a Board of Management, comprising leading United Kingdom astronomers.
