Jul. 07, 1967 - Queen Mary Liner sold to Long Beach, California The 81, 000 ton Cunard liner, Queen Mary has been sold to the city of Long Beach, California, who offered £1, 230, 000. The contract was signed in London today. The city itself will convert portions of the vessel at least 150, 000 square feet into a modernistic Museum of the Sea. The non-museum portion of the vessel would be leased to reputable firms for operation of hotel-concention facilities, quality restaurants, shops featuring British and other foreign imports and for world trade and ocean resources offices.
