May 05, 1949 - Queen Mary opens flats for the aged: Queen Mary today opned Isleden House, Islington, a housing scheme for the aged poor, which has been erected as a social experiments by the London Parochial Charities. Its purpose is to provide self contained flats, single and double, designed for old people, with a common room, a laundry and sick bay, and quarters for a resident matron under the same roof.
