Jul. 07, 1953 - Queen Salote leaves, still smiling. Queen Salote of Tonga, the Friendly Island in the Pacific, said farewell to Britain today. Queen Salote, who attended the Coronation said: You are good enough to say that I have won the heart of your Island - your Island has won mine for ever. I shall never, never, forget. The 6ft 3ins Queen first laughed her wave into the affection of Londoners as she sat in an open carriage in pouring rain on Coronation Day.
