Rabbi Dr Leo Baeck, Holocaust survivor, 80th birthday
May 12, 1953 - Rabbi Dr Leo Baeck celebrates his 80th Birthday next week.: Rabbi Dr Leo Baeck, the outstanding Jewish thinker and one of the great public figures, who after a miraculous survival from Nazi persecution, made his home in the UK, celebrates his 80th birthday on May 23rd. Before the Nazis came to power, he was the most eminent Rabbi of the Berlin Jewish Community. Under the Nazi persecution Dr Baeck then President of the central Organisation of Jews in Germany, refused to leave his Community in spite of numerous appointments offered him abroad and in 1943 was taken to a concentration camp in Theresienatadt.
