Racehorse Atonement falls in river at London Docks

Dec. 12, 1958 - Thoroughbred Racehorse Takes A Ducking Accident While loading At London Docks: Atonement a thoroughbred racehorse was bein growung abroad the cargo liner Surat bound for Malaya today-when the cable snapped-and it plunged into the King George V Dock. Within a few minutes the two year old gelding was lifted out and apart from a few grazes appeared to be none the worse for its ducking. The gelding was owned and trained by Mr. Peter Thrale at Epsom. The animal was sent back to its stables in Middlesex-and will be shipped again later Photo shows. (Left) The racehorse Atonement seen in the water after the breaking of the crane cable.
