Racehorse Atonement falls in river at London Docks
Dec. 12, 1958 - Thoroughbred racehorse takes a ducking. Accident while loading at London docks. Atonement a thoroughbred racehorse was being put on board the cargo liner Surat bound for Malaya today - when the cable snapped - and it plunged into the King George V Dock. Within a few minutes the two yer old gelding was lifted out - and apart from a few grazes appeared to be none the worse of its ducking. The gelding was owned and trained by Mr. Peter Thrale at Epsom. The animal was sent back to its stables in middlesex - and will be shipped again later. Photo shows Atonement is taken away after having been hauled out of the water at the king George v Dock today
