Racial tension in Notting Hill, West London
May 18, 1959 - Jamaican Murdered In Race Riot Area Of London: A 32-year old West Indian, Kelso Benjamin Cochrane, was walking home to Bevington Road, North Kensington, after attending hospital with a broken thumb early yesterday, when a group of youths challenged him on a street corner: Where are you going Jim Crow, A fight developed and Cochrane was stabbed. Two black men took him to hospital but he died a few minutes after admission. The murder occurred in the Notting Hill area - scene of last year's racial disturbances.
