Radio-controlled model helicopter for Channel crossing

May 05, 1974 - Radio-controlled model helicopter to attempt Channel crossing: A Channel crossing by a radio-controlled helicopter is to be attempted soon, weather permitting. If the experiment succeeds it will be the first time a model aircraft has crossed the Channel. The helicopter is a scale model of a Ball 212 twin jet. Its rtr is about 5 feet in diameter and its maximum forward speed is about 70 mph. When the attempt is made the model will be controlled from a real helicopter, and the two helicopters will fly within 100 yards of each other, the model slightly in front. Tests took place today at Zaireaks Aerodrome, Cobham, Surrey. The model is manufactured by Ripmax Ltd of Enfield, Middlesex.
