Ratna Sari Dewi and Masahiko Tsugawa in Tokyo, Japan
Jun. 06, 1969 - Mme Sukarno's New Romance - wants to be freed by Ex-President: Will former Indonesian President Sukarno, the ageing and ailing dictator, free his young and beautiful Japanese wife Ratna Sari Dewi, to wed handsome Japanese film star Masahiko Tsugawa with whom a romance has blossomed following their meeting a month ago at a party in Tokyo? All Sukarno has to do is to pronounce three times the words: I divorce thee before witnesses, to conform to Moslem law. The ex-cabaret hostess with whom Sukarno fell in love during a visit to Tokyo, and later invited to Djakarta, divorced one of his four wives to marry the Japanese girl, as four wives is the limit under Moslem law, said in an interview that she did not want anything more to do with Sukarno. The Indonesian Government do not want anything more to do with Dewi whose Japanese name is Nacka Nemete and have refused to grant her an entry visa to Indonesia, and following the overthrow of Sukarno, Dewi has mixed with the jet set in Paris, and other European capitals. Sukarno bestowed upon her the title of Ratna Sari Dewi in place of her Japanese name, which is comparable with that of Princess'. Last week Madame Sukarno left for Paris together with her little daughter Karina, fathered by Sukarno, and a woman attendant but on arrival at Bangkok she cancelled her schedule and returned to Tokyo minus her small daughter, but with the woman attendant. Has she been drawn back to her native Tokyo by the charms of Tsugawa, the handsome film star, or has something gone wrong with her future plans? Tokyo, the biggest city in the world, is after all a village street when it comes to Peking their noses into the lives of well known personalities.
