Jun. 06, 1964 - Hit The Road Singer to quit the Road : Blind blues singer Ray Charles, who at 33 is already a jazz legend, and who recorded the hit song Hit the Road Jack, announced yesterday that he plans to quit the road, and give up the hectic life that brings him a million dollars a year, and after completing his current engagements will go into semi-retirement, appearing in public for only about one month a year, spending the rest of his time searching for new talent.
