Mar. 03, 1972 - RAYMOND BURR TRIES OUT THE NEW AID FOR THE DISABLED. RAYMOND BURR, famous for his role as the wheelchair detective in the television series A Man Called Ironside - tried out the Chairmobile, a new aid for the disabled, designed by Lord Snowdon, which was demonstrated in London today. Lord Snowdon's invention - a major sociological advance for disabled people, allows the physically disabled to move around homes, offices, factories - even supermarkets and stores - in a chair of their choice. It may be driven with only one arm and so finger mobility is required, and under certain circumstances it can be operated by a person with no hands at all.
