Refugees

Jan. 01, 1953 - Relief for refugees in Berlin. By the rising influx of East-Zone refugees to Western Berlin the housing and feeding-difficulties increased in a very alarming degree. The UN provided for 00, 000 from the funds of the Ford Foundation and the High Commissioner of the Refugee Committee of the UN invited all member states for assistance. Besides the Norwegian Society for European Aid procured for 250, 000 crowns (i.e 147, 000 - DM) and religious welfare organisations in Norway started a collection. Our picture shows refugees in an overcrowded West-Berlin refugee camp
