Jan. 01, 1953 - Relief for refugees in Berlin: By the rising influx of East zone refugees to western Berlin the housing and feeding difficulties increased in a very alarming degree. The UN provided for 00.00 from the funds of the Ford Foundation and the High Commissioner of the UN Refugee Committee invited all member states for further assistance. Besides the Norwegian Society for European Aid procured for 250.000 crowns ( DM 147.000) and religious welfare organisations in Norway stand a collection.Photo shows a woman from the East zone taking her poor food in one of the West Berlin overcrowded refugee camps
