Refugees

Feb. 25 The Refugees of Cyprus. The Real Sufferers in the Communal Disturbances.. Many Greek and Turkish Cypriots have had to leave their Cyprus homes because of the continued communal disturbances.. A camp for the Turkish Cypriots has been set up a few miles from Nicosia - and under arrangements made by their own community are now living on a piece of dusty ground on the outskirts of the half Greek - half Turkish village of Skyllours. Most of their own home have been burned - presumably be the Greeks living in their old village. The camp accommodates about 130 men - women and children. Each family has one tent for living quarters and one for stores. Water has to be brought from near by wells. Few of the men have any work to do - and so are collecting stones with which to build crude houses that they hope will be ready before arrival of the winter rains in October - on a piece of land donated by a Turk. Food is supplied free by the Cyprus Federation of Turkish Association some of it coming by relief ships from Turkey. Photo Shows: A Turkish Cypriot family in one of their living tents - at the refugee camp.. They have two tents per family - one for living in and one for stores
