Jul. 07, 1961 - Tears of love at their reunion : after a long time of fear, anxiousness and uncertainty for the refugees. It is an every - day picture of the Berlin of our days after long years of separation, the mother has come across the border from East - to west - Germany and can embrace her daughter again, full of joy. Last -week- and, about 5000 people have come from East-Germany to West-Berlin. In the first half of July. there were, so far, 18000, which means that the number of refugees has reached a maximum. Since 1949, about 3, 5 million people have left East-Germany to find a new life in freedom in West-Germany
