1970 - Rehearsing For Festivities For Covent Garden Market's Tercentenary: Covent Garden Market will celebrate its 300th. anniversary on May 9th, when the festivities will be opened by the Duke of Edinburgh. Covent Garden is a market by virtue of a charter granted by Charles II. The festivities will include porter's basket races and a traditional street fair.
