Removing statue from dome of The Gaiety Theatre, London

Jul. 02, 1957 - Work commences on removing the statue from the dome of the Gaiety Theatre, London: Work started this morning on the removal of the figure, an angel blowing a trumpet, which graced the dome of the old Gaiety Theatre in the Strand. Origin of the figure is unknown. The Theatre is being demolished to make way for a new office block. In memory of the famous Theatre it is hoped that the figure can be renovated and placed in the centre court of the new building. Photo shows workmen secure the figure with ropes after the removal had to be suspended because things were not progressing satisfactorily-this morning
