Rene Bennett on motorcycle for six-day Scottish event
Apr. 17 Rip-Roaring Rene's A Ton Up Mum: Rene Bennett is a smiling mother of two, a woman who spends half her time changing nappies and cooking lunch for her two children and half her time amongst the motor bikes in her East End motorcycle business. When, that is, she's not busy out on the tracks in the country tearing along like greased lighting over bumps and ruts and jolts in her efforts to best the men at their own game. For Rene is one of the few women contenders in motor cycle events in the country. And on May 3rd begins a stamina-testing event - the Scottish, an 250-mile gruelling trial over heavy mountain country taking six days to complete. Rene will be riding a 250 cc Greeves and she's out to show that women are as good at anything when they try. Meanwhile she's proving that women who do masculine sports can be very feminine too as she looks after Julie, 8, and young Charles (he'll be one while she's in Scotland) at her Plaistow Home.
