Richard Burton and Marcello Mastroianni are making the film Death in Rome based on the Robert Katz book concerning the attempt of Via Rasella in Rome where 33 German soldiers were killed and 335 hostages were shot at the Fosse Ardeatine, near Rome. Burton plays the role of the SS colonel Manfred Kappler who ordered the reprisal and Mastroianni plays the role of a partisan priest Don Pietro. The film is directed by Yorgo Pan Cosmatos
