Richard Burton, Marcello Mastroianni and director Cosmatos
Jan. 01, 1973 - British actor Richard Burton and Marcello Mastroianni are shooting in Rome the film Death in Rome based on the Robert Katz book about the attempt of Viaasella in Rome where 33 German soldiers were killed and 335 hostages were shot at the Fosse Ardeatine near the town. Burton plays the role of the SS officer Manfred Kappler who ordered the reprisal and Marcello Mastroianni plays the role of a partisan priest Don Pietro. The film is directed by Yorgo Pan Cosmatos
