Richard and Christina Whitecross return from Argentina
1976 - BRITISH BUSINESSMAN AND HIS ARGENTINE WIFE ARRIVE BACK IN BRITAIN AFTER 4 months in ARGENTINE JAIL. RICHARD WHITECROSS, the British businessman held for 4 months in an Argentine jail, arrived back at Heathrow Airport last night, and told of being arrested at gunpoint and being threatened with death by guards who, he said, tortured most of the prisoners. His Argentine-born wife, held in the same jail, said she was forced to watch one of their friends, with a hood over his head, being beaten up by four men. Mr Whitecross, 30-year-old South American representative of the Oxford University Press, and his wife CHRISTINA, were the first political detainees to be freed after a coup overthrew the regime of President Isabel Peron. They were arrested on Nov 24th with a left-wing Chilean friend SERGIO, who was staying at their flat in Buenos Aires. PHOTO SHOWS DR.
