Feb. 28 Birthday Of Richard Strauss: At June 11 Richard Strausss was born at Munich. Already with 20 years he was introduced by Hans von Bulow as composer and conductor. 1885 Richard Strauss became a music-master at Meiningen, then he went as bandmaster to Munich, later to Berlin and finally as leader of the State Opera to Vienna. He gained with his Operas Salome, Elektra, Rosenkavalier a worldwide success. Other well-known operas are: Ariadne auf Naxos, Die Frau ohne Schatten, Daphne, Die Liebe der Danae and Capriccio'. He wrote also music for ballets and pieces for orchestra and chamber-music. Richard Strauss is known as the most representative person in Germany's musical life in the first part of the 20th century. The last 25 years of his life he spent at Germisch (Oberbayern), where he died
