Robert C Christopher, Newsweek International

Robert C. Christopher: Editor, Newsweek International Robert C. Christopher has been with Newsweek since 1963. in 1969, following a six year stint as Senior Editor in charge of the international section, he was appointed the magazine's Executive Editor. In July 1972 he was named Editor of the international Edition. Prior to joining Newsweek, he was Director of Fundamental Economic Research for the Corning Glass Company. From 1950 to 1963 Christopher was on the staff of Time magazine, first as contributing editor and then as a correspondent in Rome. He returned to New York in 1956 and became an Associate Editor. Five years later he was promoted to Senior Editor. A native Thomaston, Conn. Christopher was graduated magna cum laude from Yale in 1948 with a B.A. in Oriental History. He served in the U.S. Army as a japanese language officer during World war II and as a intellegince officer during the Korean War. In 1968, Christopher won the Page One Award of the Newspaper Guild of New York for the july 10, 1967, cover story, The Vietnam War and American life. He was also the winner of the Overseas Press Club's Citation For Excellence for Newsweek's MArch 19, 1968, cover story, The Agony of Khe Sanh. Christopher is a member of Phi Beta Kapaa, the Elizabeth Club (New Haven), Mory's Association, and the Fifth Avenue Club. He is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, the Council's Advisory Committee on the Edgar R. Murrow Fellowship and the Board of Trustees of the Corning Glass Works Foundation
