ROBERT SARGENT SHRIVER JR was an American politician and activist, best known as part of the Kennedy family as the driving force behind the creation of the Peace Corps and as the Democratic Party's candidate for American vice president, having replaced nominee Thomas Eagleton who resigned during the 1972 presidential election. Shriver died at the age of 95 on January 18, 2011.
