Rolls Royce car for Royal Naval air squadron, Yeovilton
Sep. 09, 1969 - Rolls Royce car for last fixed wing squadron of the fleet air arm. To commemorate the long association between the Royal Navy and Rolls Royce, the company is lending a Rolls Royce Silver Shadow car to No. 892 Squadron of the fleet air arm. The car was presented to the Squadron today by Mr D J Pepper, a director of Rolls Royce, at a ceremony at the Royal Naval Air Station, Yeovilton, Somerset. The Squadron, equipped with Rolls Royce Spey powered Phantom strike fighters, is the last with fixed wing aircraft to be formed in the Royal Navy. It is planned to embark the Silver Shadow, which was previously used for demonstrations, on HMS Ark Royal with the Squadron next year, and for the Squadron to use it to show the flag during visits to foreign ports. The car will be on loan to the Squadron until the latter is disbanded. The squadron will be the only carrier borne Phantom Squadron of the Royal Navy and will remain in service until the aircraft carriers are phased out.
