Roman Scandal in West End revue, St Martins Theatre, London

Feb. 29 A ROMAN SCANDAL IN A WEST END REVUE: One of the highlights of the new intimate revue The Bells of St. Martin's at the St. Martin's Theatre, is In Perspective in which outsize comedienne, Hattie Jacques, appears inside a picture frame, seated at a table with three Roman admirers. Hattie sings to them nostalgically while they drink toasts to her beauty. All is well until an apple rolls down the table and out of sight, then Hattie herself starts to fall, she tries desperately to save herself by thrusting a leg over the table, but it is too late and she ends up spread-eagled on the table, her wreath awry, but still gamely finishing her song. Our photographer takes us behind the scenes and shows us how two tough propmen hold up Hattie during her ordeal. All the while she is singing. Hattie Jacques is toasted by her admirers. The scene is pleasant and unusual - there is as yet no hint of the fun to come
