Rothmans aerobatic team gives display at Blackbushe, Surrey

May 05, 1970 - The Rothmans Aerobatic team takes to the Skies: Britain's first full time civilian aerobatic team has been formed by Rothmans of Pall Mall, the cigarette manufacturers. A team of four vintage Stampe biplanes piloted by a group of the country's best aerobatic fliers will thrill millions this Summer at air displays throughout Great Britain. Leader of the Rothmans Aerobatic team is Squadron Leader Manx Kelly, who retired from the Royal Air Force a few weeks ago to set up the new serial equipe for Rothmans. The team today gave a demonstration at Blackbushe, Surrey, where they will make their debut at the West London Air Display on Spring Bank Holiday Monday (May 25th). Photo shows Film actress Imogen Hassel who came to wish the team luck poses in a flying helmet in the cockpit of one of the Stampe biplanes used by the team
