Feb. 18, 1953 - 18-2-53 The Call It A Football Match.Annual Shrove Tuesday Game at Ashbourne Dorset Shrove Tuesday is the day for the annual Football match between two parties of villagers at Ashbourne, Dorset. The villagers form themselves up into two teams and the job is to get the football to one end of the village or the other to score a goal. They start off in the centre of Henmore Brook and it is quite a problem to move the ball from the brook to start off. Keystone Photo Shows: Crowds on the side of the brook look on at the efforts of the teams to get the ball out and on to the village end to score a goal
