May 05, 1956 - The Tragedy of Bert Trautmann, killed in car accident: German born Bert Trautmann the goalkeeper of the Manchester City Cup Winning team who broke his neck during the match learned yesterday that his only child six year old son John had been killed in a car accident. Bert received the tragic news when he arrived in Berlin to watch the England - German match last evening. He lent for London and Manchester again on the first aircraft. Photo shows Bert Trautmann with his wife and their son John as they had a little celebration before the cup final
