Feb. 15, 1961 - Britain's Oldest Foot ball Match - On Shrove Tuesday Through Derbyshire Town Of Ashbourne: Claimed to be Britain's Oldest match - was the annual Shrove Tuesday contest through the Derbyshire town of Ashbourne- played yesterday. The Contest is between teams born on either side of the local Henmore Brook to goal the ball at two mills - three Miles apart. The Match was started off by Mr. John Moores, Chairman of Everton- and former Director of Little-woods Football Pools.
